Alexa Chung’s Fall Madewell Collection

Alexa Chung held a presentation of her fall Madewell line in the Bowery Hotel.  Alexa looks chic and fabulous in a short velvet shorts and white safari shirt. The collection hits Madewell stores in August.

Pieces include T-shirts with drawings Alexa did herself, loose blouses, skinny pants cuffed at the hem to reveal polka-dot trim, and boyfriend blazers. Many models also wore socks with sandals paired, more curiously, with super-short snug-fitting velvet shorts. For fall. “A lot of the collection is based on girls in bands, or girls standing side of stage. I felt like they’d be on tour so they wouldn’t mind getting cold,” Alexa Chung explained. “I just really liked them so I just made them. I guess they’re not the most practical thing, but if you wear tights with them like I’m wearing them today … ”

Alexa said she was very involved with the design process, and sketched pieces herself. “I was doing the live show every day so I kind of went in a few times after work and I took them in sketches that I’d drawn.” But now that her MTV gig is up, she’s not sure if she’ll stick around New York for summer or go back to London. “I don’t really know. My rent doesn’t end til June,” she said. “I’m really shit at future questions. I’ve never been someone that maps out their life plan.” But what does she want to do? “This is a question everyone keeps asking me at the moment. I’m quite happy doing what I do now, which is, uh — this designing thing has been amazing.” She seems to be gravitating toward a slash job title involving both fashion and television. “Yeah, I know it’s annoying to straddle professions, but I find both stimulating and fun,” she said. “And as long as TV still interests me I’d still like to make it. And it’s the same thing with fashion — it’s something I’ve increasingly become fond of.”
