Stella McCartney for GAP
Stella McCartney the famous fashion designer who has three children under the age of four announced that she will turn her hand to designing childrenswear for the first time, in a new collection for GapKids and BabyGap. Expected to launch in November this year, the Stella McCartney kids and baby collectiona will be carried in selected GapKids and BabyGap stores in the United States and Canada, UK, Ireland and japan.
Regarding the collaboration McCartney said: “For years now I’ve wanted to create a collection for kids, it’s something I’ve often been asked about. I believe that this one-off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand. I believe that kids clothing should be more accessibly priced, which is particularly important at the moment given the current climate. It’s really exciting for us to do a boys and girls collection for the first time.”
The line includes everything from supersoft cashmere blankets for newborns to Fair Isle sweaters, brushed cotton blazers with silk lapels, and those wool military jackets, which are intricately embroidered with gold thread. In addition to the wallet-friendly price points (from $14 for wool tights to $128 for jackets), many of the looks are versatile enough to be worn by either girls or boys, a boon for parents with big broods.
McCartney made sure the fabrics she’s used in the collections, such as organic cotton, cashmere and wool (aren’t scratchy) and has incorporated fun elements to entire children as much as their parents. A superhero printed t-shirt design which McCartney’s four year old son Milled approved both be customized with a set of colored markers sold alongside the garments. There are also pajamas that come in a dinosaur-print bag for boy, along with tulle tutu skirts in caramel and pistachio and a faded mint silk party dress embroidered with silk flowers for girls. (The collection’s sizes run from newborn to children up to age 12).
And in keeping with McCartney’s vegetarian principles, all the shoes she’s designed, which include sneakers and shiny gray rain boots, are all made without leather. “A big part of the excitement for me was not just the clothes but the shoes,” said McCartney. “Because so many people had said to me, ‘I can’t get shoes for my kids that aren’t leather.’”
Well, those McCartney kids and baby collections are great. And as a great parents, we should give our children the best fashion outfits too. So, if you have a children, would you give them Stella McCartney collections??
